Teenager advised to limit sugar intake?

Postby Mary » Wed Jan 20, 2010 10:10 am

I'm a newbie and this is my first posting, so hello to you all!
I'll be interested in any suggestions you have to share on the following please:
My 16 year old daughter has suspected Glandular Fever. After advice from a Naturopath, she has been advised, amongst other things, to avoid as much sugar as possible in order to boost her immune system. We eat a healthy diet, but she does love the occasional biscuit, sweets etc. (I'm sure she probably eats more then she lets onto me as well! ) She's at a low ebb at the moment and I would like to have some attractive alternatives to suggest before I introduce this idea to her as well.
Thanks in advance!

12 teaspoons added sugar for a 2000 calorie per day diet

No more than 40 grams per day for a 2000 calorie diet.
Remember that the daily limit of 40 grams refers to refined/processed sugars only. There seems to be no limit on natural sugars, however. So, if it's fruits and sugar cane, for which, you're craving, sweet deal.
